MaryRuth Kelly was born on November 4th, 1946 to the late J.W. Venson and Ruth Venson as an only child. MaryRuth met, fell in love, and married the late Phillip Kelly Sr. Out of the union two beautiful children were born, Philtina Kelly and Phillip Shawn Kelly Jr. 

MaryRuth attended Mount Zion Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY. MaryRuth then attended Lafayette High School. In 1975, MaryRuth pursued the career of a switchboard operator at the N.Y.C. Department Of Health, where she was later on promoted to a position of Secretary where she retired. She furthered her education by attending Borough of Manhattan community college in 1997. After retirement from the Department of Health she still continued to work with District Council 37 as a lobbyist for local 1549 until the catastrophe of 9/11. 

In 1978 MaryRuth joined the Eastern Stars Metropolitan Grand Chapter under the leadership of sister Armentres Holiness, she was Grand Matron of 1066 Bedford Avenue. She became heavily engaged and made a large impact on the organization.

MaryRuth embodied the spirit of a fashionista where she was constantly recognized by her stylish appearance. MaryRuth was an avid lover of high heel shoes, long eyelashes, and R&B Music. MaryRuth was a magnet to the glitz and glam of the fierce image of bold lipstick. She was known for wearing her iconic silver bracelets. She pursued her dream of traveling the world and purchased a bracelet in every country she visited.

MaryRuth Kelly Leaves to cherish her memory her two children Philtina & Phillip Shawn, her grandchildren Shawntel, Azariah, Mary, Raffea, Anthony, and Nyla. She also leaves four older cousins Mary frances wardlaw of Anderson, South Carolina, Gloria Jackson of Maryland, and Linda & Dale Casey of Queens, New York, as well as younger cousins Naquasia & Shaquana pollard, Asiyah Bando, Yvonne & Monay Mincy, Clyde Anderson, Doris Moon, Andrea Wardlaw , Connie Hill, Darell Hill, Glendale Hill and Russ & Russel Calhoun.
