It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Julius Thorne Jr. on January 14th, 2025. Julius was a Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Brother-in-law, Uncle, Cousin and Friend.
He was born on May 22, 1947 in Brooklyn NY, to parents Theresa Reid and Julius Thorne Sr. Raised in Manhattan’s lower east side, along side his siblings: Olivia, Theresa (Ann), Shirley, Juanita, Kevin (brother Cray and sister Renee -deceased.) Julius was the second child of seven children. Julius went through the New York public school system and graduated from Seward Park High School in the neighborhood of the Lower East Side. This is where he set his life in motion meeting his childhood friends and enjoying his early years. Julius also shared many enduring friendships over the years. But of course one of the best accomplishments was his dear family, meeting the love of his life, his beloved wife Teresa of 55 years and being a loving dedicated father to his loving children Tawana, Julius Joseph lll (Jay) and Justin. But his true sparkle was his loving six grandchildren- Tsyia, Jadalyn, Tamia, Jusiah, Jaxtin and Zoey, who brought immense joy to his life.
He loved his daughter-in-laws Tiffany and Luana and they always had a fun time when they got together and loved him like a father.
Julius had a personality like no other! He always had a funny remark or a funky dance. He was always especially ready for a photo! Most times you would even see him still standing in the background ready for anyone who wanted a last pic before he sat down. He was always ready with that winning smile. He was also always ready to travel somewhere. If you asked he was always down to go! He had a passion for life. He especially loved Atlantic City but loved to travel anywhere his family and friends would be together.
He had many nicknames June, Junior, Thorne and when his daughter began calling him homeskillet, he referred to himself as such when he would call her and say “Hey it’s daddy-homeskillet calling!”
He loved westerns and biographies but his true passion was sports! It can be any kind of sports! -From Major League Baseball to corn hole tournaments and he was the family’s resource for any sports stats or references needed. He was a true fan of New York teams however his true allegiance was to the Mets, Knicks and Jets!! He would say how miserable they did each season but still was a true devoted fan after training day and each new season began.
He was a dedicated worker for over 25 years as a maintenance supervisor for Time and Life magazine. He would often work long hours but always had time for family and friends.
Another favorite memory is he could hold on to the tv remote and be a master at flicking through stations when commercials would come! He wouldn’t waste time on commercials unless he went to the bathroom or was napping otherwise the tv remote would be in full effect!
He also had the best stories whether embellished or not he made spending time with him always an enjoyable one.
He is survived by his loving Wife, Children, Grandchildren, Sisters (Olivia, Theresa (Ann), Shirley, Juanita), Brother Kevin, In-Laws (Kathleen, Dolores, George, Maryann, Richard) Cousins and countless Nieces and Nephews. He truly will be missed beyond any words could ever say!!
The family invites all who knew and loved Julius to honor his life and legacy. Rest in peace Julius and may your soul find eternal light and love. Until we meet again. We love you!!
